I’ve played poker for ten years, but last year I introduced myself to no-limit Hold ‘Em, by playing in tournaments. After I came in fourth, by worthless hand, I realized that my final place was not where I had started. I became tighter and, well, I lost. I learned a valuable lesson: that first-rate players can be» smarter than winning poker pros.

I also realized that all talk and no stone-clipped facts don’t equals winning poker strategy. My first three tournaments back-to-back, I would have never made it to the final card in any of those tournaments if I had not played with wild cards, because in that fourth tournament I would have never played possibly the best hand.

I realized that I do not have to learn every trick and trickbook in the book to win. I only had to learn one more than the next. I also realized that all talk and no stone-clipping facts are not for everyone. My mistake cost me several thousand dollars over the course of several years. However, I did not lose those $10,000 bandits.

I also had to learn that other winners know how to win online poker, and they are willing to teach you. They are also willing to answer any question you have about how to win poker. They also like to help you on your way to winning poker.

If you are willing to listen and take advice, you will learn that the winners are as different as the poker tables they play on and the women they date, rather than as different as the hobbies they have and the cars they drive or the watches they wear.

If you are a young, first-time Texas Hold ‘Em tournament player, you probably think you can handle the big blind and the fast-paced action of a no-limit game. You think you know the difference between big hands and big stacks. You think you know when to call big raises and when to fold. You think you know the best moves to make from each position on the table.

Let me tell you one more thing about the guys who beat you last hand. They’re not perfect. I’ve played with them, actually, and some of them are very good. They work their rear ends for eight hours a day, and some of them are actually getting paid for it. These guys know what they are doing.

Some of them are even embarrassed by the fact that they make money at what they do. I used to be one of those guys. I would call it a hobby. Now I know better. What is a hobby? A hobby is something you do in your leisure that produces a living and pays the bills. Tennis is a sport. Playing poker is a sport. But some people, look at me as if I am a hobbyist. I am not. I make money doing what I do.

I am in the entertainment business. My job is to try to find folks like you and me who enjoy what we do and help them to make money while we do it. That is the reason I have written this book and added my voice to the many others of men and women who enjoy this sport and the books that teach the art of winning Dewavegas tournaments.
